An evening with Architect B. V. DOSHI

Architect Balkrishna Vitaldash Doshi is a gamechanger Architect of Indian Subcontinent. Recently this renowned  Architectural Person came to Bangladesh in 3rd June, 2002. Architect B. V. DOSHI was invited to visit Dhaka as a jury member of a design competition. The competition was “Design of North-South University”. At the same day IAB (Institute of Architects  Bangladesh) organize a lecture session with this renowned architect. Honorable  Bangladeshi Architect Mr. Mazharul Islam was also present in this auspicious program.

V. Doshi a 75 years old young and delighted fellow entered into the Winter Garden of Sheraton Hotel at 6:10 PM. A huge number of Bangladeshi architects were then eagerly awaiting for him. This gathering is a rare scene in Dhaka. However, after the speech of President of IAB and other formalities to receive the Guest; the guest came at the rostrum and began his lecture.  Architect and Poet Robiul Hussain and Ar. K Z Hossain Taufique was also present at the stage.

His subject was how we can search for our own. He starts with the painting at the entry lobby of the parliament house of the Chandigarh by Le Corbusier. During his lecture he shows various slides through which he tried to explain how can we integrate various events of our life style and achieve an identity. He said,

“The more we integrate, the more we know ourselves”.
