Institute of Architects Bangladesh Makes Historic Leap with First International Chapter in Canada. Toronto, Ontario, Canada – June 11, 2024 – The Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB) proudly announces its landmark expansion into Canada with the establishment of its first-ever international chapter in Canada. This momentous occasion marks a significant milestone in the organization’s history, showcasing its commitment to global collaboration and excellence in architectural innovation.
The inaugural event, held on June 1st, 2024, in Toronto, brought together a distinguished gathering of esteemed guest speakers, presenters, architects, and industry partners from both Bangladesh and Canada. The event served as a platform for fostering meaningful connections, exchanging ideas, and celebrating the rich tapestry of architectural diversity that both nations offer.
The establishment of the IAB’s international chapter in Canada underscores the organization’s dedication to promoting cross-cultural dialogue and advancing architectural practices on a global scale. With Bangladesh and Canada sharing a common vision for architectural excellence, this collaboration opens new avenues for creative exchange and mutual learning between professionals in both countries.

- Lisa Landrum, President, Canadian Architectural Certification Board and Chair and Associate Professor, Department of Architectural Science, Toronto Metropolitan University
- Dr. Ulrike Al-Khamis, Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Aga Khan Museum
- Clenton Afonso, Event Coordinator of the Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario (ARIDO)
- Claudiu Filimon, Talent Acquisition Specialist at Toronto Metropolitan University
- Charbel Moreno, Associate Director of Business Development, Government & Special Projects at the University of Toronto, School of Continuing Studies
The Chapter was elated to receive greetings from patrons such as Settimo Vilardi, President of OAA (Ontario Association of Architects), video messages from Dr. Khandakar Shabbir Ahmed, President of IAB (Institute of Architects, Bangladesh), and renowned architect Marina Tabassum from Bangladesh, for the Inaugural Event. The success of the event was possible by the support from the sponsors and numerous hours dedicated by the volunteers, Event organizer and members of the Advisory Committee.
In addition to the stimulating discussions and presentations, the inaugural event provided a platform for fostering collaborations and partnerships between architects, industry professionals, and academic institutions.
